The Client Needs map: the whole test on one page
A proportional block map of four category bands split into eight subcategory cells, each cell sized to its weighting midpoint, with the three heaviest cells filled in accent.
What the weighting means
Each subcategory is published as a percentage range rather than a fixed number, because item selection varies within the blueprint from exam to exam. Your study effort should follow the midpoint of the range, not the topic that feels most familiar. Comfort is not a weighting. A subcategory carrying twice the items deserves roughly twice the hours, whatever your instincts say.
The eight subcategories, by published range
| Category | Subcategory | Range |
|---|---|---|
| SECE | Management of Care | 15–21% |
| SECE | Safety and Infection Control | 10–16% |
| HPM | Health Promotion and Maintenance | 6–12% |
| PSI | Psychosocial Integrity | 6–12% |
| PHYS | Basic Care and Comfort | 6–12% |
| PHYS | Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies | 13–19% |
| PHYS | Reduction of Risk Potential | 9–15% |
| PHYS | Physiological Adaptation | 11–17% |
The three that dominate
Management of Care, Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies, and Physiological Adaptation carry the largest combined share of the current plan. Between them they can account for roughly half your exam. Naming them is the whole point of this page; their content is owned elsewhere and taught nowhere in this book.
