Inside the cover

Every other book in this family teaches you something to know. This one teaches you something to do. It is the difference between a candidate who can define sepsis and a candidate who can look at a nurses' note written at 1030, name the three findings that changed, say which explanation covers all three, and choose the one action that has to happen before the shift changes.

The exam stopped rewarding recall alone. It now hands you a record and scores the path you take through it. That path has six named steps, and each one has its own job, its own input, and its own way of being asked. You will work all six here, on real charting, with real numbers, and you will finish with an eight-move protocol short enough to run in your head under time pressure.

Nothing in this book asks you to memorize a body system. Systems appear only as the material the reasoning works on. If you want the loop introduced gently, → BOOK 01 · P9 does that. This book assumes you have met it and want to be good at it.

TakeawayThis book is about the reasoning the exam scores, and that is a different skill from recall.
