Red is never used for emphasis.
Highlighter key
- Yellow swipe: the single most important line on this page.
- Pink swipe: the thing candidates get wrong.
- One of each per page, maximum. If you see two yellow swipes, it is a printing error.
Icon key
Twelve icons, no more: cue, analyze, prioritize, plan, act, evaluate, harm, watch, high-yield, normal, calculate, exhibit.
Device key
- Margin rail — the outer column; asides, flags and pointers live there and nowhere else.
- Memory hook — a dashed, corner-folded box; every hook in the family is registered once and reused verbatim.
- Tick box — a completion mark you fill in; the book expects to be written in.
- Taped card — a small rotated card carrying a rule that must survive being torn out.
- Watch-out flag — breaks the panel edge on purpose, so it is seen before the paragraph it interrupts.
- Pointer chip — an arrow, a book number, a page. It replaces content this book does not own.
